For many years Sensory Integration Therapy has been helping the developmentally disabled and those on the Autism Spectrum to better process and focus their thoughts and feelings, as well as to relax their bodies. We now offer a new way for wheelchair users to achieve the same goals with our new MG series Motorized Wheelchair Gliders.

New Mexico Swing Works grew out of the company Take a Swing which started over 10 years ago making portable swing frames and therapy swings primarily for children needing practical applications of Sensory Integration Therapy. Our innovative frames and swings are now marketplace leaders and used for children and adults in homes, schools, therapists’ offices, and community programs throughout the US and the world.
Why did we build the MG series Motorized Wheelchair Glider?

In 2006 we were asked to help a different population. A young lady with CP needed a self-swinging motorized frame for her full body seat. We got to work and were soon able to send her our first motorized frame.

Since then we found a glider type frame more suitable for the weight of wheelchairs.

So, we built the motorized, made-for-wheelchairs, MG series Motorized Wheelchair Glider frame you see here in the video clips and pictures.

How can a motorized platform help?

We’ve watched as children rolled onto our glider and started swinging. They relax, they smile, their stress seems to ebb. Swinging, rocking, and gliding seem to be some sort of basic human activity that everyone can enjoy. That is what we are trying to do — to uplift, ease, and in general, improve the quality of life for wheelchair users and for others who may enjoy a nice gliding swing.
There are, of course, other applications for this product. The MG Gliders can be made wider and can hold an easy chair, crib, or small bed. Turn the wheelchair around, put your feet on the back rail and you have an automated leg exercise machine.

4. Variable speed (the top speed is limited for safety)
5. Platform is large (41” wide X 54” long)
6. Quality automatically retracting wheelchair tie-downs are secure and easy to use

8. Simple set-up (note that some lifting of heavy parts is required)
9. Fairly quiet (something like the hum of a washing machine but without the sloshing of water)
